How to be a more successful hunter (Nov 4 2006)

What I mean is to be above average when it comes to getting that game you are hunting.  Some get deer every year. You can learn how to be like that. So let’s get you to be a better hunter.

First we have to find out what type of hunter you are. How serious of a hunter are you on a scale of 1 to 10. A hunter between 1 and 3 are hunters that get up in the morning look in the mirror and ask themselves should I go hunting today? On the scale 4 to 6 get up and go out hunting not knowing where to go, but do go out. Hunters 7 and 8 are hunters that know where they are going and have done a little scouting before the season opened. Now 9 to 10 hunters live for opening day. They have been in the woods many times over the last few months. Scouting and they know where they are going and most already know how big the trophy is. They have seen it several times already.

Now that we know what type of hunter you are how can we make you better? A couple places to start are by watching hunting shows on TV or hunting videos. I have found that hunting videos are a great place to learn from. First of all you can watch hunting videos any time you want. Some are better then others. Just get your hands on as many as you can. Buy them, borrow from friends or rent hunting videos.  If you can just pick up one little tip it could make the difference between getting a trophy or not. Next go the extra mile and do more scouting. This is by far is the best way you can spend your time. The more you are in the woods the more you will learn. Talk to people that get there game every year. Ask them how they do it.  Do not ask them where they hunt. You will have to find your own place. A good hunter almost never gives up their hunting spots.  It takes years sometime to learn to be a great hunter. The saying goes the more you study the faster you learn.

Now you should have plenty to do. Get out there and enjoy the time you are in the woods. If you have children take them with you. It is great to do it together. Just being out there is better then sitting in the house watching TV. Unless you are watching a hunting videos or hunting show. Any day not working and in the woods is a great day. Enjoy the woods and good luck hunting.
